Klein Gift Supports Jefferson Center for Refugee Health
Stephen Klein, a longtime supporter of Jefferson, recently made a $50,000 gift in honor of Richard C. Wender, MD, to support the Department of Family and Community Medicine’s Center for Refugee Health.
This generous gift will enhance the care Jefferson provides for people who have been forced to flee their countries due to persecution, war or violence.
At the Center, family medicine physicians address physical and mental health issues refugees face due to poverty, violence, lack of sanitation and forced migration. In addition to screenings, they provide follow-up visits, access to subspecialty services and hospitalization if needed.
During the past six years, the Center has cared for about 40 percent of the refugee population in Philadelphia and has been a model for other programs nationwide.
