Gerald E. Meyer Scholarship Campaign
Gerald E. Meyer, PharmD, MBA, FASHP
Gerry has been Associate Professor and Director of Experiential Education at Jefferson College of Pharmacy since its founding and a leader of Jefferson’s Pharmacy staff for nearly four decades. At Thomas Jefferson University Hospital’s Department of Pharmacy, he was Assistant Director of Operations and Director of Resident Training.
Gerry’s leadership extends far beyond Jefferson, reaching to the top of his profession. He has served as President of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), and he has been a member of the association’s Board of Directors and Chair of its House of Delegates. He has been Presidential Officer for the Pennsylvania Society of Health-System Pharmacists (PSHP) and the Delaware Valley Society of Health-System Pharmacists (DVSHP). He also served on the Advisory Panel on Educational Outcomes for the Center for the Advancement of Pharmaceutical Education.
His inaugural address as ASHP President was vintage Gerry. “My priorities are of little value unless they become our priorities,” he said, noting how prescribing two drugs can have an effect greater than the sum of their individual effects in a process called “synergism.” His leadership and teaching style are always generous, warm and synergistic.
Gerry is a Fellow of the American Society
of Health-System Pharmacists. He has been recognized with numerous awards for teaching excellence and professional achievement, including the Sister M. Gonzales Duffy Lecture Award, Pharmacist of the Year by PSHP, and the Jonathan Roberts Award from DVSHP.
Jefferson College of Pharmacy alumni remember Gerry Meyer as a stellar teacher, wise mentor and inspiring role model who cared about each student as well as the excellence of the profession. The Gerald E. Meyer Scholarship is a wonderful tribute to Gerry and his devotion to the professional formation and personal well-being of Pharmacy students.
Endowed scholarships are of vital importance for Jefferson, for our students and for the future of our society. They are a critical source of funding that enables Jefferson to attract the best applicants and to prepare tomorrow’s healthcare professionals unencumbered by the burden of debt.
The Gerald E. Meyer Scholarship honors Gerry by supporting what he cares about most: developing the future leaders of the pharmacy profession. Your gift to this scholarship fund helps prepare new generations of skilled and knowledgeable pharmacists committed to dispensing medication that is “optimal, safe and effective for all people, all of the time” (ASHP vision).
