Jefferson Salutes Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Vision
Dr. Steve Klasko, Joseph Hill, SVP & Chief Diversity Officer at Jefferson, and SKMC student Lauren Coaxum presenting Dr. Vivian with an award for his dedication & commitment to Dr. King's vision.
The University’s faculty and students were joined by civil rights icon Rev. Dr. C.T. Vivian for the 2nd Annual Jefferson Salutes Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Vision. Rev. Vivian was an active proponent of social justice, organizing sit-ins throughout the South, riding the first “Freedom Bus” and working closely with Dr. Marlin Luther King to plan the historic March on Washington.
The event featured a meandering conversation between Dr. Stephen Klasko and Rev. Vivian on the history of the civil rights movement and the lessons today’s activists can draw from it. This annual series, as well as other events like it, are a growing part of Jefferson’s ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion across its campus.
