How Jefferson Health Birthed the Nation’s First Major Marijuana Research Program
Pennsylvania’s legalization of medical marijuana has turned cannabis research into a growth industry almost overnight. Thanks to the so-called “Jefferson Provision” of the new law, universities and hospitals will have the ability to conduct clinical trials of the plant and its derivatives—a critical part of making cannabis as safe and effective as possible.
At the forefront of this new wave of research is the Lambert Center for the Study of Medicinal Cannabis and Hemp in Jefferson’s Institute for Emerging Health Professions. The Lambert Center will serve as a hub for national and international research initiatives, ensuring scientific standards are adhered to and that the largest possible patient populations are used in studies.
