Bruce A. Meyer, MD, MBA, to Join Jefferson Health as Chief Physician Executive and Senior Executive Vice President of Thomas Jefferson University
PHILADELPHIA — Jefferson announces the appointment of Bruce A. Meyer, MD, MBA, to the newly-created position of chief physician executive of Jefferson Health and senior executive vice president of Thomas Jefferson University. Reporting to Jefferson’s president and CEO, Stephen K. Klasko, MD, MBA, Dr. Meyer will serve as the organization’s clinical leader to ensure that Jefferson delivers high-quality and safe patient care, while enabling the successful transformation of Jefferson Health into a single, integrated system with a seamless and consistent patient experience. As senior executive vice president, Dr. Meyer will work closely with the CEO and Jefferson leadership to advance the organization’s mission across the academic, clinical, innovation and philanthropy pillars of its enterprise.

Dr. Meyer will join Jefferson in the fall of this year, most recently from University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical Center where he served as executive vice president for health systems affairs and CEO of its accountable care network, in addition to leading the population health services company of Southwestern Health Resources (the unique public-private partnership between UT Southwestern and Texas Health resources).
Prior to joining UTSW in 2007, Dr. Meyer served as chair of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at University of Massachusetts Medical School and president of UMass Memorial Medical Group, a 750-member physician faculty practice. He has organized and led community-based physicians in a successful clinically integrated Accountable Care Organization.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Meyer has received numerous awards for his work, including the UHC Rising Star Award in Quality and Accountability; the Press Ganey Pinnacle Award of Excellence in Patient Experience (five years in a row); and the National Center for Healthcare Leadership’s Best Organizations for Leadership Development Award. He is the author of more than 70 peer-reviewed publications, has won numerous teaching awards, and served as a residency program director, fellowship director and clerkship director.
Dr. Meyer earned his medical degree from the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, completed his residency and fellowship at UT Health Science Center at Houston and received his MBA from the University of Tennessee.
