Ms. Karen Walsh is an experienced statistician and methodologist with over 18 years of industry experience and able to successfully implement and manage strategic healthcare initiatives, proof of concepts, and consulting engagements. Prior to joining the faculty of the Jefferson College of Population Health, Ms. Walsh was a leader in the Informatics Department at Independence Blue Cross (IBC) where she successfully implemented Pay for Performance Programs and fraud detection through provider assessment strategy for hospitals, specialists, and primary care providers. She was also the business lead for implementing Phase I of Blue Cross Blue Shield Association Blue Health Intelligence National project for IBC, a Blues only data warehouse for benchmarking, modeling, and national account reporting.
At Optum Ms. Walsh served as Director of Research and Methods within the Informatics and Data Science area. She executed on various predictive models for product research and analytical projects that are complex in nature and cross a wide range of issues that deal with measuring health care services including cost, utilization, quality and risk. Ms. Walsh received her MS from Northwestern University in Predictive Analytics and has an MBA from Pennsylvania State University. She has also taught courses in Decision and System Sciences Department at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.
