Dr. James W. Fox

James W. Fox, IV, MD, former Professor and Director of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Jefferson Medical College and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, is a longtime member of the Board of Trustees of both Thomas Jefferson University and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Dr. Fox earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Notre Dame in 1966 and his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in 1970. He also completed his internship and residency in General Surgery at Jefferson Hospital, winning the John H. Gibbon Surgical Prize in 1970 and the College of Physicians and Surgeons’, Best Surgical Resident Award and Stipend in 1972. He went on to complete a fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and University Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, after which he was awarded First Prize in the National American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons Chief Resident Competition.

In 1976, Dr. Fox joined the Department of Surgery at Jefferson as Assistant Professor in the teaching of his specialty. He soon also joined Dr. J. Wallace Davis, one of his mentors and fellow Jefferson Medical College graduate, in private practice. Dr. Fox currently is a full Clinical Professor and Chief of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Fox has authored and co-authored over 40 scientific articles and publications since 1975, over 30 of which have dealt with breast reconstruction. He has also given lectures on his work and research all over the globe. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, Associate Editor of the Aesthetic Surgical Journal, and President of the Philadelphia Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Fox currently is Chairman of Jefferson’s Surgical Advisory Committee in the Department of Surgery and is Past Chairman of the Surgical Resident Selection Committee. In Jefferson Medical College, he served as Past President of the Alumni Association and of Alumni Giving.
