Beyond Our Walls

Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC) has a longstanding commitment to the communities it serves.

Students and faculty at SKMC, in partnership with students and faculty of other schools within the university, including the Jefferson Schools of Nursing, Population Health, Pharmacy and Health Professions, recognize there are limitations to the delivery of healthcare in the area and have created several programs to address these needs.

Community service is a vital part of SKMC's academic mission. This has resulted in a partnership with the community through a variety of programs and initiatives, including: JeffHOPE, Jeff YES, JeffMentors, Jefferson Medical Interpreters, Physician Shortage Area Program, Refugee Health Partners and Jeff HEALTH.

Jefferson is extremely proud of its students and recognizes that many of these programs started as their vision. It is through their drive, dedication and hard work that these programs thrive. SKMC recognizes that the definition of a community is broad and thus, the scope of community service includes not only the local community, but extends to the national and global community.

In the video below, see how SKMC students have distinguished itself as leaders in commitment to community service.
