Jefferson Health Opens Expanded Nicholas and Athena Karabots Diagnostic Center and Interventional Radiology Suite
Ribbon Cutting Celebrates State-of-the-Art Radiology Offerings at Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital.
Jefferson Health officially cut the ribbon on the expanded Nicholas and Athena Karabots Diagnostic Center and the Nicholas and Athena Karabots Interventional Radiology Suite at Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital.
A $4 million gift in July 2024 from the Karabots Foundation funded the purchase, installation, and operation of a new Computerized Tomography (CT) scanner and Positron Emission Tomography (PET)/CT scan in the Karabots Diagnostic Center, as well as state-of-the-art interventional radiology equipment for the new suite.
“Community remains at the heart and soul of Jefferson,” says Baligh R. Yehia, MD, MPP, MSc, FACP, president of Jefferson Health. “As medicine evolves, we must remain nimble and able to provide access to the most advanced imaging equipment and the latest, most accurate diagnostic services and uncompromising care to everyone in our community, no matter their status or location. Our partners and benefactors at the Karabots Foundation have made this possible.”
The gift reflects the late Nicholas Karabots and his wife Athena’s long history of philanthropy and commitment to the health and well-being of underserved, inner-city residents and to ensuring their ability to access high-quality, trusted medical care. In 2014, the Karabots Foundation made a leadership gift to name the Nicholas and Athena Karabots Medical Building in Norristown, which is now part of Jefferson Health, as well as the diagnostic center at Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital.
“We are profoundly grateful for the generosity and vision of the Karabots Foundation and Karabots family,” says Brian Sweeney, RN, MBA, FACHE, president of Jefferson Health’s north region. “They have made possible critical advanced technology to ensure that Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital will continue to provide leading-edge diagnostic imaging services for the Norristown, Pennsylvania community and beyond.”
With the addition of this new, transformative diagnostic equipment, patients hailing from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds will have equitable access to the latest imaging services, furthering Jefferson’s mission, to improve lives.Â
