Dr. P. Kenneth Brownstein
P. Kenneth Brownstein, MD has been a dedicated member of Jefferson’s Department of Urology for 36 years. He was a member of the original kidney transplant team at Jefferson in the 1970’s and remained an active member of the transplant group for the next 25 years.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Brownstein received his medical degree from Hahnemann University when he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and received the Lange Award for Scholastic Achievement, as well as the Surgery Award for the Class of 1970. He completed his residencies at UCLA Harbor General Hospital, University Hospital in San Diego, and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Brownstein was certified by the American Board of Urology in 1978.
As a teacher, Dr. Brownstein has influenced generations of medical students and residents. In 1975, he received the Alpha Omega Alpha Award for Best Teaching Resident at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and its affiliated hospitals. When Jefferson’s Department of Urology celebrated its centennial anniversary in 2004, it presented him with The Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Dr. Brownstein is past president of the Medical Staff of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Currently he practices general urology at Thomas Jefferson University and is a clinical assistant professor of urology. He is the author of numerous publications in the field of urology and has a wide array of urologic interests and a broad urologic practice.
He and his wife, Lisa, reside in Philadelphia. Their family includes: son Michael, daughter Carrie and her fiancé Ray, son Erick and his wife Amanda, and two grandchildren Jules and Solomon.
