The Jefferson Transplant Institute is a leader in the field, home to world-renowned doctors and one of the highest survival rates in the nation. Since our first kidney transplant in 1974, we have a long and proud history of surgical innovation. In 1984, we performed the first liver transplant in the Delaware Valley. In 2010, we were one of the first hospitals in the nation to use a totally artificial liver dialysis machine as a bridge to transplant for a patient with acute liver failure. And, today, we are poised to launch a first-of-its-kind global kidney exchange program.
