Community
Currently, the Women’s Board and Auxiliaries have pledged to raise $3 million in support of the redesign of the Goodman Emergency Trauma Center at Jefferson Abington Hospital. One of only two Level II trauma centers in Montgomery County, the Goodman ETC will serve as the hospital’s “front door,” caring for more than 80,000 patients annually. The redesigned trauma center will feature calming aesthetics, state-of-the-art triage and treatment areas, modern patient amenities and spaces designed for the high-pressure environment of emergency medicine, creating a streamlined and patient-focused experience.
The Women’s Board and Auxiliaries support community members through Safe Harbor, the SAFE Center, Save Your Soles, The Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP), and various hospital departments such as Behavioral Health and Occupational, Speech, and Rehabilitation Therapy. They provide a safe and comfortable environment in the hospital by funding artwork and improvements to facilities to improve patient and visitor experience, decorate the hospital for the holidays, and provide holiday gifts to patients on December 25th.
For over a century the Women’s Board and Auxiliaries have raised millions of dollars to fund diverse projects to support the Abington community. Fundraising is done through annual events organized by both the Women’s Board and each Auxiliary, as well as several campaigns throughout the fiscal year.
Wellness
The Women’s Board has pledged $100,000 a year through FY27 in support of the Durham Fund for Nurse Wellness. Research shows that there is a direct correlation between nurse fatigue, stress, turnover, and negative patient outcomes. The fund seeks to address systemic changes within the nursing profession by prioritizing nurse wellness and resilience through initiatives that foster a positive, supportive, and healthy work environment at Jefferson Abington Hospital.
The Women’s Board has previously granted:
- $500,000 in support of the Durham Fund for Nurse Wellness, which seeks to address systemic changes within the nursing profession by prioritizing nurse wellness and resilience through initiatives that foster a positive, supportive, and healthy work environment.
- $150,000 for stipends to be given to operations department staff members of Jefferson Abington Hospital in nutrition, transportation, plant operations, and environmental services.
- $200,000 to employee wellness initiatives.
- $100,000 of capital funds for the renovation of the Aramark Market in Shorday Lobby.
Cancer Care
The Women’s Board’s completed pledge of $2 million supported the building of the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center – Asplundh Cancer Pavilion. Their completed pledge of $3 million, over five years, supported the Image Recovery Center, which brings the amenities of a luxury spa to patients interested in restoring their appearance before, during, and after experiencing the side effects of cancer treatment. Proceeds from the annual Race to Reimagine Cancer Care 5K Run/Walk provide ongoing support to Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center – Asplundh Cancer Pavilion.
Newborn Care
Through targeted giving programs and events, funds have been raised to support newborn wellness for graduates of the level III neonatal intensive care unit (Andrew Tesauro Special Care Nursery), the Cleary Newborn Wellness Center, Corrine Santerian Newborn Center, and the National Safe Sleep Program.
Underserved Community
The auxiliaries support underserved patients in the community through Hartnett Health Center, Abington Family Medicine, an OB/GYN clinic, a dental clinic, a community holiday program, and patient special needs funding through the Cards for a Cause and Lights of Love campaigns.
Healthcare Education
Financial support is given for fellowships within the hospital, scholarships to Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School, clinical equipment at Dixon Campus of Jefferson College of Nursing, and employee training programs.
Healthcare Technology
The yearly Tee Off for Technology Golf Outing provides vital equipment for areas of the hospital such as cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery. Through targeted giving programs and events, funds are being raised to purchase equipment for the ECMO program and various hospital clinics.
