The David Farber ASPIRE Center
ASPIRE to Make a Difference
Suicide is the second leading cause of death in ages 13-30 years and the 10th overall cause of death in the United States. This calls for a response that extends beyond typical psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy treatment studies and expands into public health, education, and integrative behavioral health approaches.
The David Farber ASPIRE Center (Advancement of Suicide Prevention, Intervention, Research, and Education) will be the region’s preeminent comprehensive center focused on suicide prevention and related behavioral health constructs such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress.
Key Programmatic Areas
Housed within Vickie and Jack Farber Institute for Neuroscience’s Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior, the ASPIRE Center will leverage the myriad strengths of the institute and the broader Jefferson enterprise to accelerate advances across three key areas: clinical care, research, and education.
Clinical Care
The center provides comprehensive, evidence-based, and family-focused treatment for individuals of all ages managing psychiatric illnesses and life challenges that increase one’s risk for suicidal behavior and related outcomes.
Research
Research will focus on suicide prevention efforts, treatment development, dissemination, evaluation, and more. The team will develop responsive programs that meet the needs of statewide and national stakeholders.
Education
The center will expand the existing work of the team, including broad-based dissemination of suicide prevention trainings for clinicians, educators, and community stakeholders through the Prevent Suicide PA Online Learning Center.
Our high-quality clinical program will focus on suicide prevention and related behavioral health constructs such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress
