Audiology Team Gives Gift of Hearing
For the second year in a row, Jefferson’s Audiology team had the opportunity to travel to Kenya with Dr. Luginbuhl and his medical team. During our time at Kifjabe Hospital, we provided training to their audiology technician, Jonathan, and encouraged best clinical practices. With a warm welcome, he was eager to improve his skills. Prior to the trip, we gathered 70 units of donated hearing aids and essential supplies for Kijabe’s audiology clinic. Our hearing screening day at a primary school in Nairobi, serving more than 4,000 students, was quite memorable. With the help of a local collaborative team, we screened approximately 70 students, including 40 students from the deaf classroom, and other children bused in from surrounding schools. Months after the trip, we learned that some of the children we identified to benefit from amplification had later been fit with donated hearing aids in Kijabe. These accomplishments could not have been fulfilled without the support and help of our wonderful colleagues, community, and CHANCE contributors. Jefferson Audiology hopes for continued success and support for future initiatives.
