John McGinley Pediatric Gift Fund
About
John was born on December 6, 1979—the happiest day of our lives! What we did not know is that this day would be the start of us being gifted with John for only six-and-a-half years.
As a baby, John won over the hearts of many with his happy charm (except for those regretted diaper changes)! When he entered the toddler threshold, we experienced a bit of the “terrible twos,” but ultimately, we were rewarded with the “terrific threes,” thank goodness! Once walking, John became our “little helper.” He always wanted to pitch in, whether it was doing chores around the house, painting projects with dad, cooking with mom, or doing whatever else he could, just to help you. Our little helper turned any chore into a fun event. He even helped his aunt and uncle get married! It was so rewarding to see him beaming because he knew he helped you.
John brought smiles to all who met him. He always wanted to bring joy to others, and took a special interest with his playmates who struggled. John’s happiness was contagious, and he wanted to share it with the world. Ultimately, God decided to bring John home early.
In recognition of John’s helping nature, and the qualities that made him who he was, the McGinley family has established a fund in his honor, one that will support pediatric patients and their families by easing some of the emotional burdens of hospitalization. The John McGinley Pediatric Gift Fund caters to the specialized needs of children and teens at Jefferson Abington Hospital, one of only two hospitals with pediatric beds in Montgomery and Bucks counties. Every year, the hospital cares for approximately 700 children and 500 babies in their inpatient beds, providing vital services and treatments for these families at a location close to home.
Together, with support from donors like you, we can ensure that the children and families have the resources and ability to prioritize their emotional wellbeing during this challenging time. These funds support initiatives to bring joy to sick children—just as John would have wanted—such as funding animal therapy visits, a special dinner in the hospital for the family, a child’s birthday party, and toys and books for patients, among others. In times of crisis, it is important that these young patients are reminded of the simple joys in life to help them in their recovery during their illnesses.
With the support of our nurse manager and social workers, our pediatric team will identify children and families who may need the support of the John McGinley Pediatric Gift Fund during their inpatient stay. Once a need is identified, resources will be deployed immediately to help meet that need. All funds (100%) that are donated to this fund have a direct patient and family impact.
