Jefferson Abington Hospital Mentors Future Medical Professionals in Pre-Med Program

Since 1959, Jefferson Abington Hospital has offered a highly competitive Pre-Med Program. Each summer, the program offers students firsthand shadowing experience in the healthcare field and a deeper understanding of the work and responsibilities of a healthcare provider in a modern hospital complex.

“It’s been an opportunity for undergraduates to come to the hospital and really experience firsthand what people are doing in lots of different specialties in medicine to decide if they want to embark on this very fulfilling but very long journey,” Dr. John Russell, Director of Medical Education at Jefferson Abington Hospital, told 6abc.

The Pre-Med Program offers a broad exposure to several facets of the organization, including Ambler Medical Associates, Asplundh Cancer Center, Autopsies, Emergency Trauma Center, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neuroscience, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Newborn Wellness Center, and Surgery.
